You are viewing documentation for IMS v6. If you are using Chorus, please switch to: https://www.thirdlight.com/docs/display/CDD/

Files uploaded from your computer may need to travel through many different computers or networks before they reach the IMS server. Errors reported when uploading files do not necessarily
indicate a problem with the IMS system itself.

A typical arrangement can look like this:

The types of problem that can cause upload errors at each stage are listed below:

1) Problems originating from your PC/Mac:

a) Misconfiguration of user account or server credentials. See the Uploads > Desktop Upload page or the FTP documentation and FTP Troubleshooting Guide.
b) Uploading files larger than a permitted size.
c) Using an old version of the Third Light Uploader.
d) Not having a valid installation of Java when trying to use the Browser Uploader.
e) Disruptions or misconfiguration issues on the underlying network. If you are copying a file from a network share and see error messages mentioning 'exceptions' 'or 'network write errors', try copying the files to your desktop first before uploading to rule out an issue with the shared drive.

2) Uploads may be rejected if your IT team have installed a proxy server. This is the main cause of upload problem reports we receive.

Proxy servers may need additional configuration to allow your uploads to reach the IMS server.

Further information is available here.

3) Slow transfers may be a result of the distances between your location and the location of your IMS server. The larger the distance, the more intermediate networks e.g. ISPs that will be involved and a problem at any one of these will slow the rate of data transfer.

4) The IMS server may run out of disk space so check the administration interface for any alerts that suggest that space is low.
