The Download Settings page enables you to control some aspects of the way in which files are downloaded from your IMS Library. The page is accessed from the Configuration > Site Options menu.

The settings on the page are as follows.

Setting name

Description

Download filename mode

Specify what is used as the filename when a file is downloaded. The options are:

  • Original: same filename as uploaded. The default option is to use the standard filename.
  • Rename: use IMS label and reference. This option uses your short site name, and the IMS reference number. For example, imsdemonstration_4509121977.jpg, where imsdemonstration is the short site name and 4509121977 is the IMS Reference number.

Embed IMS data in downloads

Select this option to have IMS metadata included in files when they are downloaded. IMS-specific metadata comprises:

  • the IMS reference number
  • the IMS Library URL
  • embargo date
  • expiry date (if one has been specified for a file).

This data can assist in auditing and tracing files. This data will be readable in a number of ways depending on the tool you are using. In PhotoShop or Bridge for example, select 'File, File Info...' and you will see this data included in the Advanced tab, Schema folder (labelled 'Third Light'). For more details, please see Metadata bindings.

Allow files to be fetched directly from IMS

Enables or disables the Fetch File feature used to publish files on a URL. For more details, please refer to Fetch File to URL.

Enable URL-based Download

This feature allows the API to generate secure URLs based on a set of image conversion parameters. In effect this allows the API to create custom download links. For more information please see the documentation on the Downloads.GetLink method in the IMS JSON API Reference - available from the Help menu of your IMS installation. As with all API calls, any link generated is restricted by the download permissions of the ISM User making the API calls.

Allow permanent download links

This setting, when enabled, allows the above feature to generate URLs that are not restricted in time. i.e. the URL will stay valid forever. If this is disabled, then a link will have a maximum validity of 7 days. Permanent download links are generally required if you are generating links for use on an external website. For example, the Third Light Browser makes extensive use of this feature.
