To open a File in the File Console, open a Folder and click on the thumbnail image of the File you want to open. The fields on the page and their usage are described on this page. Users are assigned Console Mode by default but Basic Mode, which provides a larger preview image and reduced metadata, is also available: for details please refer to View Modes.

Metadata
The File Console provides one of the primary ways in which to review and edit metadata, including keywords, captions and other information. It makes it easy to work on one File or work your way through all the Files in a Folder.
Metadata is displayed in panels as specified in the Customise Metadata page. The fields of metadata into which values have been entered are displayed in the File Console. Fields for which there is no value are not displayed, but are available when you select the Edit button. You can also specify the fields of metadata to which each user/group has read and/or write access: use the Metadata tab when updating a user or group account.
Only Administrators and Power Users are able to edit metadata fields, by default.
