Introduction to this page

Browse possible groupings of files and narrow search results with facets.

Facets are a simple, visual way of seeing files in any pane grouped according to their common characteristics. This makes them powerful tools for refining your searches.

For more, see Understand viewing pane facets.

Step-by-step:

1. First, perform a search. See Use the search bar

Search results will be returned to your active viewing pane. Facets for the results will appear at the top of the pane in the facets carousel. Each facet displays a metadata value common to any two or more files in that pane.

2. Click on a facet to narrow your search results according to the facet characteristics.

Can't see any facets? To turn facets on or off for all panes, click the eye symbol at the top right-hand corner of the active pane. Check or un-check Show facets everywhere.

3. Click on the facets menu at the right-hand end of the facets carousel to view facets according to a specific metadata field. The default "smart" mode picks the best facets for you.

Your search results will be narrowed according to common groupings of metadata in the field you have chosen.

TIP: Click the x next to a search term to remove search terms from the breadcrumb navigation trail. This allows you to quickly adjust the combination of search terms.
