Introduction to this page

You can rename a file in any space where you have permission to edit.

This page is about renaming a single file. To rename multiple files as a group, see Rename a batch of files.

Good to know: The files in a folder or space may be sorted alphabetically. In this case, a renamed file may move position in the pane in which it is being viewed. To change how files are sorted in a pane, see Adjust viewing pane settings.

Step-by-step:

1. Select the file you want to rename.

2. Click Rename in the right-hand sidebar.

The name of the file will appear editable at the bottom of the file icon.

3. Enter a new name for the file. You have room for 255 characters, but keep in mind that the name will often appear beneath an item's avatar in viewing panes.

4. Press Return on your keyboard or click in an empty area of the pane to save the new name.
