Introduction to this page

Generating a link to embed  in a web site or app.

If you have permission to publish a file you can generate a Direct URL (a link) straight to a file. Direct URLs are ideal for embedding in websites or apps that require links to files rather than uploads.

When using a Direct URL the file will be served (and the data sent to your browser) from Chorus rather than the website that displays it.

Good to know: Only files can have a Direct URL. You cannot get a Direct URL to a folder, collection or smart folder.

Step-by-step:

  1. Select the file you want to get a Direct URL to.

  2. View it.

  3.  In the right-hand panel, click the Generate URL button.

  4. Copy the URL to your clipboard

Why can’t I see a Direct URL  You may not have permission to publish the file.

Revoking a Direct URL

If you generate a Direct URL by mistake, or you wish to remove a file from a website you can revoke the URL which will break the link.

Note that: due to external caching it may take up to 24 hours for the link to completely stop working.

  1. Click the X next to the link

  2. Agree to the dialogue.

If you delete a file from Chorus it will also revoke the Direct URL.

Who can generate a Direct URL?

Anyone who has permission to publish a file.

Who can revoke a Direct URL?

Managers of the space the file is in.

Why does the Direct URL not use my site name?

The address you see in the link is that of a Content Delivery Network (CDN). CDN links offer cached copies of static content for faster delivery to recipients of the link around the world. Substituting the Direct URL with your site name will still work but it would bypass the CDN performance advantages and add traffic to your server.
