After uploading a file, Chorus attempts to create thumbnails and previews of the file for display in your browser. Creating these is a computationally expensive operation.

If Chorus is given a file that has properties that are over certain limits, it will choose not to show a preview to avoid consuming excessive amounts of memory that might cause problems for other users on your system. In such a case you won't see a representation of the file you uploaded and instead will see a generic or default icon.

A red exclamation mark banner will also be placed on the preview to give you an idea of which property Chorus objects to.

The limits on Third Light's hosted platforms vary depending upon whether you use a package containing the Enhanced Performance Module (EPM):

Adobe PSDGeneral image formatsJPEGFile size dimensions
Without EPM2048MB512MB100MB27,000 x 18,000 pixels
With EPM4096MB1024MB256MB27,000 x 18,000 pixels

The limits on customer hosted systems (Data Center Edition) will be based upon the amount of memory that you have chosen to install in your server.

1) Calculate the maximum number of megapixels by dividing your system memory in kilobytes by 36000

e.g. for a 12GB / 12298344Kb system

12298344 / 36000 = 341 megapixels

2) Width and Height are then calculated by through a 3:2 ratio that meets the number of megapixels. You can use this online resource to calculate that:

e.g. A Resolution in Megapixels of 341 and an Aspect Ratio of 3:2 which Chorus then rounds to the nearest 1000 pixels gives a final result of 23 x 15 Kilopixels
