Introduction to this page

Edit a folder's name, thumbnail and metadata.

If you have the 'Edit' permission in a Space, you are able to edit its files but also its containers. Which means that you can rename a folder but also the thumbnail or the metadata applied to the folder. If you have the 'Share' permission, you can see and edit shares for this folder.

To open the 'Edit folder' modal, select the folder and click 'Edit'. A modal will open.

Settings tab

This tab gives you information on the folder itself, summarized on the left side of the screen: the folder thumbnail, the total size, the number of files or the permissions you have on the files within.

From the settings tab you can change name and description of the folder, as well as enable/disable the automatic thumbnail generation. If enabled, small previews of the files contained within are tiled to generate the thumbnail.

Once you disable the automatic thumbnail generation, either drop a picture from your computer onto the folder preview or click on it to open the file browser.

The picture you upload this way will be the new folder thumbnail. This is available for collections and smart collections too.

Metadata tab

From the metadata tab you can review the metadata panels and fields available for this folder. You can also add or remove any space, shared or inherited metadata panels to the folder.

You can also enter metadata in much the same way you would do so on a file. If you enter metadata here, that metadata will cascade down to all files within this folder and its subfolders. Files removed from this folder or its subfolders will not show this metadata anymore, and files added to them will automatically gain it.

It is also possible to disable cascading for a specific subfolder. Cascaded metadata shows with a grey background and can be disabled by clicking on it. This can be done to an individual file too.

Shares tab

If a folder has been shared with the “share-folder share” action, the shares tab will notify you of that and offer an “edit” button that functions as a shortcut to the folder share menu, where the shares can be edited or more shares can be performed. This is available for collections and smart collections too.

Cog tab

From the cog tab, metadata contained inside the folder and its subfolders can be exported onto a csv file. It is also possible to import a csv file to either append onto the existing metadata or overwrite it. When importing metadata, the spreadsheet should contain a column with at least one of the following identifiers: Chorus ID, File Name or File Path.
