Introduction to this page

Chorus can help you clean a batch of files containing legacy metadata, by applying only the metadata inherited from its parent space and folder.

When a file is uploaded into Chorus, it may come with pre-existing metadata already embedded in it. By default, when this file is uploaded into your site, Chorus will combine all pre-existing metadata with that of the folder and space into which it is uploaded. The file's own metadata takes priority.

If you prefer that parent folder or space metadata should overwrite any existing metadata in a field, choose Inherit when Batch Editing.

Step-by-step:

1. Select the files you want to edit by clicking on each file once. The total number of files in your selection is shown as a number in the right-hand sidebar.

2. Click Edit in the right-hand sidebar. An Edit menu will open.

3. Choose Batch Edit.

The Batch Edit modal will open.

4. For each of the metadata fields in which you want inherited parent metadata to override existing metadata, choose Inherit: Use the inherited text

All other keyword, text, and number values that were once embedded in the file will be removed.

5.
Click Save.

TIP: Adjust your batch selection or view

In the Batch Edit modal, selected files appear highlighted in a Selected Files pane.

  • Deselect a file from this batch by clicking on it once.
  • Click the eye symbol at the top right-hand corner of the preview pane to access the pane view menu.
