Introduction to this page

A folder will appear in your home space as soon as it has been shared with you.

An indicator of the user who has shared the folder can be seen in the top left-hand corner of the folder icon.

This folder has not been moved into your home space. It remains in its original location. You have simply been given access to its contents.

Step-by-step:

1. Select the folder that has been shared with you.

2. Click View in the right-hand sidebar to see the details and metadata embedded in the folder’s files.

Note: The metadata you will see on a shared folder’s files is determined by the space in which the folder is located. See the folder’s location in the Info tab of the view/edit console.

3. Double-click on the folder in your home space to open it and work with the files.

4. Look to the viewing pane banner to see the identity of the user who owns the folder, your permissions in the folder, and a list of the users who have also received access to this folder.

5. Look to the right-hand sidebar to see the actions available to you in this folder (such as create New, Share, or Download). These are determined by your permissions.

If you have permission to edit the shared folder, any metadata you add to the file will be embedded in the original file, in its location.

Good to know: You cannot onward share a folder that has been shared with you.
